  1. This is a great article, I know I cope better now with stress, as I now know the ‘Signs’.. But in the past I didnt, and I would bottle things up not sharing my thoughts-battling on under pressure.. Now I know when its time to take ‘Time-out’ and rest and pull back my own energy… Having someone to share and talk to helps tremendously,

Hope you had a wonderful Easter Ruth and thank you for stopping by.. I had a great relaxing Easter. 🙂

    1. As you mention Sue, knowing our own individual signs and triggers is so crucial. Taking care of ourselves often comes a poor second to looking after others and yet everything must start with the self. It is so wise to take the ‘time-out’ that you mention. Glad you enjoyed the article Sue and thanks so much for stopping by. Glad your Easter was restful too! 🙂

  2. Very good article. Got me thinking I need to work on my coping skills. I tend to initially overeat or watch too much TV when I’m having a difficult time. Then I go onto problem solving mode & deal with the problem after I’ve stayed up late watching TV & overeating.

    1. Hi Claudia, thanks so much, glad the article was useful and I really appreciate your comment. I do think it can be useful to take a bit of time to mull something over before we take action but, as you highlight, it is what we do in that crucial phase that makes all the difference and decides whether or not we end up with more problems than we started with. 🙂

  3. I am coping with chronic illness and chronic pain, but with the help of counselors and therapists, I am learning better coping skills and tools. It is difficult and takes daily practice, but I’m better than I was in the beginning.

    1. Hi Fergiemoto, Coping skills are so important when managing serious ill health. I’m glad that you’ve had some good help and that you’ve been able to put these skills into practice. As you say, it takes work, but is well worth it. Thanks so much for commenting – lovely to see you here. All my best to you and for your health – I really do empathise, Ruth

  4. I am learning coping skills at 65. Food had been my main source to cope with stress and we all know how helpful that is. I’m catching things that stress me and even if it upsets a family member, I’m starting to put a stop to stressful conversations or situations. Learning to take care of myself first has become a priority since becoming ill from massive stress. Great topic. Can never get enough information on this one.

    1. Hi Marlene, I’m so glad that the article was useful to you. Coping is such a crucial thing, I’ll definitely try to write some more on the topic. Being able to identify the things stressing you, as you mention, is a great first step to managing better. Then, slowing changing damaging behaviours to more positive behaviours. We really never are to old to learn. I find that as each year passes, I learn more and more and I wouldn’t want it any other way. All my best to you and thanks so much for your visit and great comment – I appreciate it. Ruth 🙂
